Keta Easter Homecoming: Committee holds inaugural meeting, sets plan for 2025

The Interim Central Planning Committee (CPC) in charge of organizing this year’s Keta Easter Homecoming Festival for the people of Keta Central in the Volta Region has held an inaugural planning meeting to initiate preparations towards this year’s festivities.
The meeting, which took place Sunday 9th February at the EP Church Premises-Keta brought together key members of the committee to deliberate on important matters related to the upcoming Easter activities.
The committee is led by Mr. Gabriel Dziedzorm Dzikunu, Assembly Member for Keta Central, with Mr. Benard Worlali Awumee, President of the Keta Youth Association, serving as Secretary. Other key members include Mr. Evans Torsutsey, Unit Committee Organizer; and Mr. Seyram Kwawukumey, Unit Committee Chairman; Madam Antoinette Aggey, responsible for Welfare; Madam Gertrude Hagan and Mr. Nutefe Attipoe, in charge of Finance and Sponsorships. At the meeting, the committee deliberated on many key matters including the line-up of activities for the festival, protocol arrangements, fundraising and sponsorship strategies, among others.
To ensure effective organisation, various sub-committees were formed to oversee different aspects of the event. These include the Finance and Sponsorship Committee, Logistics and Equipment Committee, Welfare Committee, Education Committee, Program and Events Committee, Publicity Committee, and Sports Committee.
The Finance and Sponsorship Committee has been tasked with identifying prominent natives of Keta Central to approach for potential support and sponsorships. Meanwhile, the Programs and Events Committee is expected to assess the viability of proposed activities and determine suitable dates and venues for each event.
Some of the activities suggested for consideration include football competitions, quiz contests for basic schools within Keta and its environs, community health awareness programs, cooking competitions, health walks, beach picnics, art and historical nights, beach marathons, entrepreneurship and educational seminars, Borborbor night, and the Grand Durbar
This year’s activities are set to commence from Sunday 13th April 2025 to Monday 21st April 2025
The committee is scheduled to reconvene in three weeks to review the progress of the planning process before organizing a community town hall meeting to unveil the final plans and officially launch this year’s festival.
Expressing optimism about the upcoming event, Mr. Gabriel Dzikunu, Assembly Member for Keta Central, stated, “Although last year was our first attempt, we were impressed by the level of interest shown by the community. We are committed to building on that momentum to make this year’s festival even more successful.”
Reflecting on the previous year’s event, he noted that despite the challenges encountered, the festival was fruitful, with proceeds used to provide potable pipe-borne water for the people of the Tamekloe-Borme community—a project set to be inaugurated soon.
Madam Gertrude Hagan, head of the Finance and Sponsorship Committee, pledged to lead efforts to secure bigger sponsorships to enhance the scale and grandeur of this year’s festival.
The maiden edition of the Keta Easter Homecoming Festival was held in March-April 2024, featuring educational, entertainment, and recreational activities. The event was highly praised by residents, both at home and abroad, for its positive impact on the community.
