Court dismisses Ofori-Atta’s bid to quash arrest warrant

The High Court (Criminal Division) has dismissed an application by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta seeking to overturn an arrest warrant issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the court held that the application lacked merit and rejected Mr. Ofori-Atta’s request to annul the warrant and related proceedings, including an Interpol Red Notice alert.

Mr. Ofori-Atta had argued that the OSP unlawfully secured the warrant as part of its ongoing probe into alleged corruption during his tenure. However, the court ruled in favour of the OSP, allowing enforcement efforts to continue.

The decision marks the latest turn in a growing standoff between the former minister and the anti-corruption agency, which is investigating allegations of procurement breaches and mismanagement of public funds.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is yet to appear before the OSP, citing medical treatment abroad. In June, the Special Prosecutor declared him a wanted person and began working with Interpol to secure his arrest.
