Committee to begin hearings on petitions against the Chief Justice Torkornoo today May 15

Accra, Thursday May 15, 2025 — A five-member committee established by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate three petitions filed against the Chief Justice is set to commence hearings on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Supreme Court Justice, was constituted under Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, in consultation with the Council of State. This follows a determination that a prima facie case has been established against the Chief Justice.
According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP and Spokesperson to the President, the committee will meet three times weekly and will submit its findings and recommendations to the President upon completion of its work.
The establishment of this committee marks a critical step in ensuring transparency and accountability within the judiciary.
