Residents of Anyako, Seva and surrounding communities at the Wego areas in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region are celebrating the arrival of clean and safe drinking water following the commissioning of the Anyako–Seva Water Supply Project, ending nearly two decades of water challenges.

‎The project was officially commissioned by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.

‎For nearly 20 years, residents of Anyako, Seva and nearby communities in the Keta Municipality struggled with severe water shortages, often travelling long distances in search of potable water. The commissioning of the project now marks a major turning point for the communities as clean water begins to flow through the newly installed system.

‎The project features a hybrid solar-powered pumping system, water treatment facilities, transmission pipelines, rehabilitated reservoirs, an extensive distribution network and smart-tap standpipes designed to ensure efficient and sustainable water management.

‎The ceremony brought together key government officials including the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei; the Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Vincent Kuagbenu; the Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey; and the Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, Wisdom Seade, alongside other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), traditional authorities and community members.

‎Speaking at the ceremony, the Volta Regional Minister expressed gratitude to the government for prioritising the needs of the people and delivering the long-awaited project. He noted that the initiative will significantly improve public health, dignity and the overall quality of life for residents.

‎He also announced that the next phase of the project will see household pipe-borne water connections extended to homes between June and December 2026 to further expand access to safe drinking water.

‎The Regional Minister commended the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, contractors, consultants, traditional authorities and residents of Anyako, Konu and Seva for their patience and cooperation throughout the project’s implementation.

‎The commissioning of the Anyako–Seva Water Supply Project marks a significant milestone in efforts to expand access to safe water and accelerate development across the Volta Region.

‎Access to safe water, officials emphasised, remains a fundamental human right and a critical component of improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development in communities across Ghana.
