Keta Easter Homecoming Festival 2025: Organisers  unveil exciting lineup under the Theme “Uniting for Patriotism”

The planning committee in charge of the Keta Easter Homecoming Festival has officially unveiled plans for this year’s celebration, promising a well-structured and impactful series of events aimed at uniting the people of Keta both home and abroad.

At a committee meeting held on Tuesday morning, it was agreed that the 2025 festival activities will officially commence on Sunday, April 13, and end on Monday, April 21, 2025. Ahead of the opening ceremony, the committee will organise clean-up exercises at all major event venues to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for guests and participants.

This year’s festival is being organised by the Interim Central Planning Committee constituting the Keta Youth Association, the Office of the Assembly Member and Unit Committee of Keta Central, and the Channel Seven7 Networks Media and Events Group, the Royal families and social groups in the town

According to Mr. Attipoe Nutefe, Chairman of the Interim Central Planning Committee, the festival is being held under the theme: “Uniting for Patriotism: A Roadmap to Keta’s Transformation.” He explained that the objective is to reconnect natives from both home and the diaspora, foster community spirit, and rekindle a shared commitment to the socio-economic transformation of Keta.

“We want to use this festival as a platform to promote unity and patriotism among the people of Keta,” Mr. Nutefe said. “It’s more than just entertainment, it’s a movement to mobilise our people for change.”

The celebration will open on Sunday, April 13, with the preliminary rounds of a football competition among eight football clubs from Keta, Adzido, Vodza and Kedzikopeat at the London Park, starting at 9:00 a.m.

On Wednesday, April 16, a Health Awareness Campaign will be held at the Keta Market to provide Services such as free health screenings, National Health Insurance card renewals, and eye check-ups in partnership with the Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority and Marriset Eye Clinic

The day will end with a vibrant welcome Borborbor Night at the New Lorry Station from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

On Thursday morning, there shall be a youth engagement forum where the key leaders in the community will meet the youth in the community and the natives from the dispora for key discussions on how to transform Keta coupled with indoor games to be held at the four court of the Keta Fort

The football semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday, April 17, again at London Park from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Friday, April 18, activities will begin with an Interschool Quiz Competition between Basic schools in Keta and its nearby communities (Keta EP School, Keta AME Zion school, Adzido M/A Basic school, and Keta RC Mixed School) to be held at the AME Zion School from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a colorful Art and candle light procession and Historical Night through the streets of Keta, concluding at the forecourt of Fort Prinzeinstein from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, April 19, will feature a Stakeholders Dialogue and Grand Durbar at the Old Lorry Station from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The day will end with Open Jams at the same venue from 7:00 p.m. to midnight.

On Sunday, April 20, a Thanksgiving Service will be held at the E.P. Church from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the grand finale of the football competition at London Park at 3:00 p.m.

The festival will climax on Monday, April 21, with a Beach Picnic for all social groups and churches at the Tent Village Beach in Keta from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Mr. Gabriel Dzikunu, the Assembly Member for Keta Central and a member of the planning committee, shared reflections on the success of the 2024 maiden edition of the festival.

“Though last year was our first attempt and came with its own challenges, we successfully organised the event and raised significant funds for community development,” he noted.5 “Proceeds from the 2024 festival were used to construct a standing pipe for the Tamekloe-Borme community, giving residents improved access to clean, pipe-borne water.”

Organizers say this year’s edition aims to build on that success and set the foundation for sustainable development projects that benefit Keta and its surrounding communities.

Mr Worlali Awumee, President of Keta Youth Association and Secretary of the Interim CPC, outdoored their intentions for this year’s precedes saying, they aim to raise funds to acquire essential event logistics, such as chairs and canopies, for rental, which will serve as a long-term revenue source for the community.

Keta Central is an urban hub and serves as the administrative capital of the Anlo Traditional Area. It is home to one of the the Region’s main market and the only tertiary institution in the area, the Keta Nursing and Midwifery Training College. The community also boasts several tourist attractions, including serene beach resorts and the historic Fort Prinzenstein. Once a vibrant economic center, Keta Central has faced significant setbacks in recent years due to the devastating impact of tidal wave erosion, which has led to the displacement of many residents and the collapse of numerous local businesses.
