Anlo State seeks Mahama’s commitment to development projects upon election
Traditional leadership of the Anlo Dukor (State) over the weekend presented to Mr John Dramani Mahama a petition document dubbed; “Critical Development Projects Requiring Commitment” for his consideration should he win the 2024 general elections to become president of Ghana
The document which contains some critical projects aimed at transforming the area was presented by Togbi Agbeshie Awusu II, Awadada (Warlord) of Anlo for Awaomefia Togbi Sri III on behalf of the entire Anlo State Friday afternoon when John Mahama paid a courtesy call on Awoamefia in his residence at Woe ahead of a campaign rally that day at Hogbe park.
In Togbi’s opening statement, he categorically stated that the projects have been well thought through and are so dear to their hearts as leaders and people.
“These projects are crucial for the protection, development, and growth of Anlo land and its people, as traditional leaders of Anlo and by extension the Volta Region, we are writing to bring to your attention some of these critical developmental projects that require your commitment and implementation if elected as President after this year’s election,”
SEA DEFENCE AND LAGOON DREDGING
- Implementing the recently launched West African Coastal Areas Resilience Program (WACA Resip 2) to protect the Volta Coastline from further sea erosions.
- Reclamation of land from the sea from Azizanu, Fuveme through Atiteti, Dzita, Tegbi, Keta, Kedzi, Horvi, Amutinu, Blekusu, Adina to Aflao.
- Dredging of the Keta Lagoon of excess silt and creation of canals for periodic seawater inflow into the lagoon to enhance quality fishing and ecotourism.
- Constructing the Keta Port, for which feasibility studies, designs and costings are already available with the construction of the administration block ongoing
EDUCATION
- Establish the University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS) satellite campus of Pharmacy at Keta Central, as promised in the NDC 2016 manifesto
- Constructing the Community Day SHS (E-Block) for the Shime area, for which the site has already been demarcated by the chiefs and presented to the minister of education under the Mahama regime
INFASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT AND ROAD CONSTRUCTION
- Regravelling and providing bitumen surfacing for the Agortoe to Blemeazado road in the Shime area.
- Gravelling and providing bitumen surfacing for the Denu to Dzodze to Ho road
- Providing bitumen surfacing for the Agbozume to Ehi to Dzodze road
- Link the coastal area of Anlo to the Amugo area by constructing a bridge across the Keta Lagoon from Keta to Anyako.
- Completing the Fiber Optic Backbone cable project started by the John Mahama administration in 2014 which did not cover southern Volta
- Extension of pipe-borne water from Sogakofe to Aflao to capture Anyako, Akatsi and its environs
- Renovate the Keta and Anloga main markets into a state-of-the-art modern market to boost local trade and economy in the area
John Mahama after the presentation showed gratitude for the gesture bestowed on him and promised to commit to the projects for which he sought the prayers and blessings of the traditional leaders to win power to be able to accomplish such projects. He also boosted of efforts he made during his previous administration by starting some of these projects including the Shime roads, UHAS statelite campus and others.
During the main campaign at Hogbe Park later that day, Mr Mahama promised to expand salt production in the area and support the youth who are into vegetable farming. He also promised to modernize the Keta and Anloga markets to serve as ready markets for traders to promote the local economy.
He was accompanied by Mr Fifi Kwetey, NDC General secretary, Mr Joshua Alabi, NDC 2024 campaign manager, Mr Mawutor Agbavitor, Volta Regional Chairman, Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, Member of Parliament for Anlo Constituency, Mr Wonder Victor Kutor, Mr Julius Debrah, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa among others
In the company of Awoamefia and Awadada were Zikpitor Dan Abodakpi, Togbi Zewu IV, Domefiaga of Anlo, Togbi Gbordzor III, Dusifiaga of Anlo, Togbi Bedi Ahadzi IV of Bedikope, Togbi Ahiabor Gamor IV of Ave Hevi, Togbi Subo II of Anloga, and Dumega Fred Abodakpui among others.
