Petrol, LPG prices to rise as diesel goes down from August 16

Fuel prices in Ghana are set for a mixed adjustment in the second pricing window of August, with petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) expected to edge up, while diesel sees a marginal drop.

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) projects petrol prices at the pump will rise between 0.39% and 2.71%, with LPG increasing by 0.15% to 2.34%.

Diesel, however, is forecast to decline slightly by 0.21% to 0.72% from August 16.

COMAC attributes the shifts to varied trends in global petroleum product prices, a marginal depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar and product-specific supply and demand dynamics

“Following the slight dip in crude prices, diesel fell sharply by 5.22%, while petrol and LPG rose marginally by 1.89% and 2.87%, likely due to product-specific demand and supply factors.

“For 1st August 2025 pricing window (based on average exchange rates from 27th July to 12th Aug), the Ghanaian cedi experienced a slight depreciation against the US dollar. The rate shifted from GHS 10.68 to GHS 10.77, reflecting a 0.87% decline,” part of the statement read.

During the review period, Brent crude fell 0.23% from $70.42 to $70.26 per barrel, weighed down by higher production from OPEC+ and non-OPEC producers, softer futures market sentiment and reduced speculative positions.

Diesel prices saw a sharper global drop of 5.22%, while petrol and LPG rose 1.89% and 2.87% respectively.

The cedi also weakened slightly against the dollar, sliding 0.87% from GHS 10.68 to GHS 10.77 per dollar, adding mild upward pressure on import costs.

COMAC noted that the projected pump prices broadly align with prevailing global market trends, with only minimal increases anticipated for petrol and LPG in the upcoming window.
