Anloga Set for 75MW Wind Energy Project as VRA Begins Engagements

Anloga (V/R), July 15, 2026

The Volta River Authority (VRA), in collaboration with the Anloga District Assembly, has begun stakeholder engagements towards the development of a 75-megawatt (MW) wind energy project aimed at boosting Ghana’s renewable energy capacity.

A VRA delegation, comprising engineers, communication officials and technical consultants, visited the Anloga District on Tuesday, 14th July 2026, to discuss the proposed project, which is expected to be sited in three selected communities within the district.

The engagement forms part of the Authority’s broader strategy to harness sustainable energy sources to meet Ghana’s growing domestic, commercial and industrial electricity demand.

Speaking to Veritas News GH, Madam Rhodda Arthur, Principal Communication Relations Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), said feasibility studies for the proposed wind energy project were conducted between 2012 and 2013 as part of the Authority’s long-term strategy to diversify Ghana’s energy generation mix.

She said the project, when completed, would generate about 75MW of electricity, significantly increasing Ghana’s renewable energy capacity and supporting the country’s transition to cleaner energy.

The project has been under consideration for more than a decade. Building on the findings of the wind resource assessments, the VRA in 2016 announced plans to establish wind farms in the Anloga District, identifying Anloga, Anyanui and Srogboe among communities with favourable wind conditions for utility-scale electricity generation.

The VRA team was received by Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, District Chief Executive for Anloga, together with other district officials and key stakeholders.

Madam Kpedor commended the VRA for its continued partnership with the Assembly and reaffirmed the district’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

“I want to commend the team for their continued partnership with the Anloga District Assembly in promoting development. As an Assembly, we remain committed to providing the needed support and collaboration to ensure the successful implementation of this important project,” she said.

The VRA delegation also paid a courtesy call on Togbi Zewu V, Paramount Chief of the Anloga, as part of efforts to engage key traditional authorities on the proposed project. The visit provided an opportunity for the team to brief the Paramount Chief and his entourage on the objectives and expected benefits of the 75MW wind energy project, while seeking the support and cooperation of the traditional leadership towards its successful implementation.

The proposed wind energy project is expected to promote sustainable energy development, stimulate local economic activities, create employment opportunities and contribute to Ghana’s clean energy agenda.
