Two dead, eight injured in funeral clash at Wiamoase, in Ashanti Region

Two young men lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries after a violent clash broke out during a funeral ceremony at Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region over the weekend.

The violence, which erupted between youth groups from Aboaso and Ntonso, has left the local community in shock.

The funeral, intended as a moment of mourning and remembrance, quickly turned into chaos after a misunderstanding escalated into a full-blown brawl.

According to Nana Boakye Yiadom II, the Chief of Wiamoase, the fight started between groups from Aboaso and Ntonso who had gathered to pay their last respects. During a phone interview with Silver FM’s Akwada Nyame, the chief said tensions between the two groups boiled over, with some youth from Ntonso allegedly brandishing pistols, which escalated the violence.

Among the injured are four residents of Wiamoase, including a pregnant woman, and four others from Aboaso. They are currently receiving treatment at the Wiamoase SDA Hospital. The bodies of the two deceased were taken away by members of the Aboaso group.

No arrests have been made yet in connection with the incident.

Hon. Enoch Boakye, also known as Nana Kente, the Assembly Member for the Gyedim-Tanoso electoral area, expressed deep concern about the incident. He appealed for peace and urged the youth to avoid violent confrontations. “This unfortunate event is a reminder of how fragile peace can be, and why we must all work to protect it,” he said.

Local leaders and residents are calling for calm and unity in the aftermath of the tragedy, emphasizing the importance of community cohesion to prevent further violence.
