Tanko Champions Education as a pathway to youth empowerment, Donates GHS 100,000 to scholarship fund

Mr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, the Volta Regional representative on the Council of State and founder of the Tanko Foundation, has reinforced his commitment to education, emphasising that it is the only key to unlocking the potential of young people and securing a brighter future for them.

Speaking at the launch of “The Ketu North Scholar” a scholarship scheme initiated by Mr Edem Agbana, where he was the Guest of Honour, Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple stressed that financial obstacles should never prevent anyone from having access to the academic journey.

“This initiative is not just about financial aid; it is a commitment to ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial constraints. Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our youth and securing a brighter future for Ketu North,” he stated.

Mr Tanko made the declaration when he donated an amount of GHS 100,000 to the scholarship fund, which aims to provide financial relief to brilliant but underprivileged students in the Ketu North area.

Further demonstrating his dedication to educational advancement, he also extended an additional $1,000 to Miss Jennifer Akorfa Amegble, a level 300 student who is pursuing her Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science degree at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale.

The Ketu North Scholar Initiative is one of the biggest educational support projects in the area as initiated by Hon. Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency

The launch which was held at the Ketu North Municipal Assembly hall on the afternoon of Sunday 2nd March was attended by traditional authorities, Key individuals and the general public including all the 302 beneficiaries of the scheme’s first cohort.

According to records, it has offered full sponsorship to some twenty-two (22) Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) as well.

Mr Kwamigah-Atokple praised Mr Agbana for his tremendous efforts to promote education in Ketu North and called on more benevolent individuals and organisations to support the initiative by donating to the fund to ensure its sustainability.

The scholarship program aligns with former President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of providing free tertiary education for Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) and implementing the “No Fees Stress” policy for first-year students across the country.

Additionally, it supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which advocates for inclusive and equitable access to quality education.

Through initiatives like these, education continues to drive social mobility, empowering young people in Ketu North and beyond to achieve their full potential.
