NPP National Youth Wing condemns cancellation of trainee allowances by President Mahama

The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strongly worded statement admonishing President John Mahama and his administration for allegedly planning to cancel allowances for nursing and teacher trainees. According to the release, the move contradicts campaign promises made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before the 2024 general elections.
The NPP Youth Wing described the alleged action as deceptive and harmful to students who rely on these allowances to support their educations.
“We demand the government to act in truth and good spirit and maintain the allowances, not just because it was their campaign promise, but because of how the students benefit from same. It is lame to argue that this government wants to cancel the allowances and rather improve the student’s loan facility for all students across third-cycle educational institutions. The fact is that teacher and nursing training schools remain COLLEGES and have not been given university statuses, which would have made the government’s argument sensible,” The statement said
They also criticized remarks by Kevin Taylor, a media personality, alleging that his statements insult and demean trainees.
The Youth Wing called for an apology from President Mahama and demanded action to prevent such derogatory remarks.
Salam Mustapha, National Youth Organizer of the NPP, who signed thes statement urged students in teacher and nursing training institutions to rise in defence of their rights, emphasizing the NPP’s commitment to standing with them against “political scams and bullying.”
