Torgbui Tenuvi II, Development and Youth Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, has made a significant donation to support Ketu South’s participating team at the ongoing Volta Inter-Districts Basic Schools Sports Festival.
The donation includes a cash prize of Gh₵10,000, which was presented on his behalf by Mr Ferguson Ahorlu to the team on Saturday afternoon upon the team’s departure for Akatsi
According to Mr Ahorlu, Torgbui Tenuvi II said the contribution was in response to a letter of support from the Education Directorate and was intended to help the athletes and officials meet their logistical and welfare needs as they prepare for the competition.
He said the objective was to support the young athletes in their bid to defend Ketu South’s overall championship title won in 2025, after the municipality secured four out of the eight trophies at stake.
In an exclusive interaction with veritasnewsgh.com. Torgbui shared how school sport is paramount to him: “Education remains my foremost priority,” Torgbui Tenuvi II stated, stressing that while academic development remains critical, co-curricular activities such as sports are equally important in nurturing talents and promoting holistic development among young people.
He noted that limited government resources often make it difficult to provide adequate support for school sports, making contributions from individuals and other stakeholders essential to complementing state efforts.
According to him, investment in sports at the basic school level is fundamental to developing future sporting talents while instilling discipline, teamwork and resilience in young people.
The more than 100-member Ketu South contingent will compete in volleyball, soccer, athletics, handball and table tennis across boys’ and girls’ categories.
Torgbui Tenuvi II extended his best wishes to the team, urging the athletes to compete with fortitude, unity and sportsmanship and to make Ketu South proud.
Mr Stanley Kwawuvi, Ketu South District Sports Coordinator, who received the donation on behalf of the team, expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying the support would strengthen the team’s preparations and enhance its prospects of competing effectively.
Ketu South finished first overall at the 2025 festival and will be seeking to retain the championship title at this year’s competition.
