GES Condemns Mob Attack on Obuasi SHTS Headmaster, Launches Investigation

ACCRA — August 5, 2026

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned an attack on Mr. Abdulai Zakaria, the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), who was assaulted by a mob of students on campus.

In an official press release issued today Wednesday August 6 by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service described the incident which resulted in injuries to the headmaster as “deeply regrettable and completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that violence, intimidation, and indiscipline have no place in Ghanaian schools.

The GES announced that a formal investigation has been launched in collaboration with security agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Officials assured the public that anyone found to have participated in or instigated the assault will face severe sanctions under the law and the GES Code of Conduct.

The Service appealed to students to resolve grievances through appropriate dialogue and channels of engagement rather than resorting to violence. It also called on parents, guardians, community leaders, and educational stakeholders to support efforts to restore discipline, respect for authority, and peaceful coexistence within schools.
