24 Hour Economy: Mahama launches streetlight initiative to boost night economy in Accra

President, John Dramani Mahama, has announced plans to begin the distribution and installation of streetlights across all districts in Accra.

The initiative, he said, is aimed at promoting the 24-hour economy policy, particularly to benefit individuals who work at night.

Speaking during a ‘Thank-you Tour’ of the Greater Accra Region, President Mahama commended the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for their efforts to improve street lighting and enhance public safety.

The President stressed that well-lit communities not only deter crime but also improve urban mobility.

He urged local authorities to continue and expand the initiative, promising full support from the central government.“I encourage the continuation and expansion of this initiative and will give it the full support of the central government,” he said.

By improving street lighting, the government hopes to create a safer and more enabling environment for nighttime economic activities, boosting growth and development in the region.
