Residents affected by flooding in the Zongo community of Hohoe have received relief items from A1 Restaurant as the humanitarian situation continues to draw concern and calls for support.
The donation, made on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, included bags of rice, sardines and tomatoes to support residents whose homes and livelihoods have been affected by the recent flooding.
The items were presented by the Manager of A1 Restaurant, Mr Jonathan Junior Asamoah, who said he was moved to assist after seeing videos of the flooding circulating on social media.
Mr Asamoah said the extent of the flooding and its impact on residents was disturbing and compelled him to respond to the immediate needs of affected families.
“The motive is clear, it’s not political,” he said, explaining that the gesture was motivated by concern for residents affected by the disaster.
He called on individuals, churches, pastors, religious leaders and other well-meaning members of the public to put aside political differences and support residents who are facing difficulties as a result of the flooding.
According to him, the situation required a collective response, particularly as some affected residents had been displaced and were in need of basic necessities.
The Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Prosper Akumi, commended A1 Restaurant for the gesture and appealed for increased assistance from government, corporate organisations, individuals and other stakeholders.
He said the affected residents urgently needed support following the flooding.
The MCE noted that traditional leaders were also concerned about the situation and were participating in efforts to coordinate assistance to the affected communities.
He encouraged individuals and organisations willing to support the affected residents to channel their donations through the Hohoe Municipal Assembly to ensure proper coordination and distribution of relief items to the intended beneficiaries.
“We can all only support each other at this time of need,” Hon Akumi said, urging Ghanaians to demonstrate solidarity with affected residents, particularly those in the Zongo communities.
The flooding, which followed heavy rains in Hohoe, has affected several communities and displaced residents.
As part of efforts to assess the impact and coordinate relief support, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) was collecting data on affected persons, while Assembly Members were also working to identify residents requiring immediate assistance.
The donation by A1 Restaurant adds to growing calls for individuals, faith-based organisations, businesses and other institutions to support families affected by the flooding as relief efforts continue.
