Tanko Courts US Billionaire for Volta’s Economic Growth

Council of State Member, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has intensified efforts to attract major international investment into the Volta Region following an engagement with American multibillionaire, investor and philanthropist, Dr. John P. Rochon.
Dr. Rochon, who has more than 40 years of experience in finance, investment, business strategy and marketing, is the founder of Richmont and the Rochon Family Office, a multi-billion-dollar private investment platform based in the United States.
The engagement, which also involved the Chief Executive Officer of Catalyst Green LLC, explored potential investment opportunities in the Volta Region, with particular attention to lithium exploration and the development and commercialisation of the region’s broader natural resources.
Mr Kwamigah-Atokple said his position on the Council of State should extend beyond traditional advisory responsibilities to include efforts to facilitate tangible economic opportunities for the people of the Volta Region.
According to him, attracting credible international investors, developing local industries and ensuring value addition to raw materials within the region are critical to creating jobs, strengthening local businesses and promoting sustainable economic growth.
The discussions also highlighted Dr Rochon’s philanthropic interests in Africa. Although he has never visited the continent, the American investor has supported hospital projects in Malawi, reflecting his interest in contributing to development initiatives in Africa.
Mr Kwamigah-Atokple believes partnerships with investors such as Dr Rochon could help bridge the gap between the Volta Region and international capital, technical expertise and strategic business networks.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts to position the Volta Region as an attractive destination for investment and unlock its considerable economic potential through responsible exploitation, local value addition and sustainable development of its natural resources.
