Torgbui Tenuvi II Vows to Complete Sports Complex Projects Ahead of 2027 Basic School Games in Ketu South

Akatsi (V/R) — August. 21, 2026 –

The Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, has pledged to intensify efforts to ensure the timely completion of ongoing sports complex projects in Ketu South ahead of the municipality’s hosting of the 56th Volta Region Inter-Districts Sports Festival next year.

He said the completion of the projects was critical to providing the municipality with the sports infrastructure required to host athletes and officials from across the Volta Region and to create a more conducive environment for youth sports development.

Torgbui Tenu VI II committed on Friday, August 21, when he joined Education Directors, Sports Coordinators, teachers and pupils to climax the 55th edition of the regional inter-districts sports festival at the Akatsi Senior High Technical School (AKAST) in the Akatsi South District

The occasion also saw the symbolic handing over of the Festival’ flag to Ketu South, which will host the 56th edition in 2027.

Torgbui Tenuvi II, known in private life as Akonta Felix Akakpo said the municipality’s hosting responsibility presented an opportunity to accelerate efforts to address the infrastructure deficit confronting sports development in the area.

He acknowledged the lack of modern sporting facilities across the region as a major challenge, stressing that the situation made the completion of existing sports infrastructure projects in Ketu South an urgent priority.

He said the impressive performance of Team Ketu South had further strengthened his resolve to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the ongoing projects were completed in time for the municipality to host what he described as a successful and befitting regional games.

Team Ketu South had an impressive performance at the festival with their first and third overall positions in the girls’ and boys’ disciplines respectively, a performance he said demonstrated the talent, determination and resilience of young athletes in the municipality.

Beyond infrastructure, Torgbui Tenu VI II also pledged a financial contribution to support the regional team as it prepares for the national games in a few weeks to come in the Oti Region

In response to an appeal from the leadership of the Ketu South delegation, he further committed to donating new jerseys, tracksuits and other vital sports equipment in large quantities ahead of the 2027 regional competition.

Speaking to veritasnewsgh.com, He said preparations for the festival must begin immediately, with the Traditional Authorities, Education Directorate and Ketu South Municipal Assembly working collaboratively to ensure that the municipality is fully prepared for the influx of athletes, officials and visitors from the region’s other 17 districts.

“Preparations to host a successful and befitting games that will showcase the unparalleled hospitality of the great people of Ketu South begin now,” he said.

He assured the Education Directorate and the Ketu South Municipal Assembly of the Traditional Authorities’  commitment to working with them to deliver a successful festival and use the occasion to advance sports and youth development in the municipality.

Akonta Felix Akakpo, is currently spearheading the construction two modern sports complexes across the Ketu South area including the transformation of the Avoeme park into an Astro Turf field as well as the sports complex at the Lente School area all within the Aflao community

His humanitarian and philanthropic activites within Ketu South extend beyond education, including healthcare, social welfare, financial assistance and other initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of individuals and communities.
