Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II’s Historic Hogbetsotso Visit Remains Symbol of Anlo-Dagbon Unity
The Anlo Kingdom has remembered the historic visit of the late Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, to the 2023 Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival Grand Durbar, describing the occasion as a defining moment in strengthening the enduring ties between the two traditional kingdoms.
Following the passing of the revered Dagbon monarch, the Anlo Dukor Council has highlighted his participation in the festival as a cherished chapter in the long-standing relationship between Anlo and Dagbon, built on mutual respect, cultural affinity, and shared commitment to peace and unity.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the Overlord of Anlo Dukor, Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Elders, and the people of Anlo State, the Council said Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II’s presence at the 2023 Hogbetsotso Grand Durbar demonstrated his deep appreciation for Ghana’s rich traditional heritage and the importance of inter-kingdom relations.
“His Royal Majesty’s gracious presence at the 2023 Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival Grand Durbar remains a cherished moment that further deepened the bonds between our two kingdoms,” the Council stated.
The Council described the late Yaa Naa as an exemplary traditional leader whose wisdom, humility, and commitment to peace earned him admiration beyond the borders of Dagbon.
It noted that his visit to Anlo was more than a ceremonial appearance, but a reflection of the shared values that connect Ghana’s traditional authorities in promoting unity, cultural preservation, and national development.
The Anlo Dukor Council further expressed solidarity with the Dagbon Kingdom, the Royal Family, Chiefs, Elders, and the people of Dagbon as they mourn the passing of a respected custodian of tradition.
“His departure represents a great loss not only to the Dagbon Kingdom, but also to Ghana’s chieftaincy institution and the nation as a whole,” the Council said.
The Council prayed for strength and comfort for the people of Dagbon, while reaffirming its commitment to preserving the historic bonds between Anlo and Dagbon.
