A 32-year-old teacher at Logba Akusame-Vuinta D/A Junior High School in the Afadzato South District has launched a public appeal for GHS100,000 to undergo urgent hip replacement surgery after being diagnosed with end-stage osteoarthritis of the left hip and necrosis of the left femoral head.
Madam Lydia Agbosu, who teaches English Language and Religious and Moral Education, said the debilitating condition has left her in constant pain and severely impaired her mobility, making it increasingly difficult to stand or sit for long periods while carrying out her teaching responsibilities.
According to medical reports, Lydia, who also lives with sickle cell disease (genotype SC), requires immediate surgery as the only viable treatment to restore her mobility and relieve the persistent pain. The condition has further complicated her daily commute to school and affected her overall quality of life.
She is appealing to the government, churches, corporate institutions, charitable organisations, philanthropists and the general public to support her in raising approximately GHS100,000 to cover the cost of the surgery and related medical expenses.
Lydia said every contribution, regardless of the amount, will bring her closer to receiving the life-changing treatment and enable her to return to the classroom in good health to continue serving her pupils.
Her appeal underscores the growing financial burden of specialised healthcare on many public sector workers, who are often compelled to seek public assistance to access critical medical treatment.
