Volta Regional Peace Council engages students of Mawuko Girls SHS in a peace education campaign

Ho (V/R)– July, 2025

The Volta Regional Peace Council (VRPC), in partnership with Mawuko Girls Senior High School, on Monday held a peace education and sensitization outreach for over 800 students and staff of the school.

The initiative, aimed at promoting non-violent and inclusive learning spaces, focused on building conflict resolution skills among students and raising awareness about the mandate of the National Peace Council (NPC).

Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the VRPC, stated the need for intentional efforts in sustaining peace within schools. He urged students to embrace empathy, tolerance, and dialogue in their daily interactions and proposed the establishment of a Peace Club on campus to foster peer mentorship and conflict mediation.

“We are nurturing the next generation of peace ambassadors,” Rev. Mawutor stated, “because a peaceful student is a powerful citizen.”

Mr. David Normanyo, the Regional Executive Secretary of the Peace Council, in an interview with Veritasnewsgh.com, expressed satisfaction with the level of interest and commitment shown by the students.

“It is encouraging to see how young people are embracing the message of peace and becoming active in related campaigns,” he stated. “While we advocate for peace, I also urge students to prioritize their studies, as education is central to building a bright and holistic future, even in the face of social tensions.”

Apart from the students, members of the school’s management also participated in the education and expressed their satisfaction with the VRPC for their decision to choose Mawuko Girls for the program. They also promised to continue preaching peace and tranquillity to their students as part of their duties

The program forms part of the Peace Council’s ongoing community outreach efforts to empower youth as champions of peace and social harmony.
