Vice President Naana Jane returns to Ghana after medical trip

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang returned to Ghana on Thursday afternoon after a medical trip to London, United Kingdom. Her arrival marked the end of a period of medical care abroad, during which she was reportedly undergoing treatment and recovery under specialist supervision.
She was warmly received at the Kotoka International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Mrs. Lordina Mahama, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, and her own Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia. Also present to welcome her were senior government officials, members of her family, and the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, reflecting the wide support she received during her time away.
In brief remarks at the airport, the Vice President expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their continued prayers and well wishes. She extended special appreciation to her medical team in London and the staff at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) who supported her before her travel. She also acknowledged the unwavering support and care shown by President Mahama and his younger brother, Ibrahim Mahama, during her recovery period.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang, a former Minister of Education and academic, was named Vice President running mate by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 elections, marking the first time a woman held that position in Ghana’s major political parties. Her return is expected to boost the party’s activities ahead of the December general elections.
