In a communique issued by the Awoamefia Togbi Sri III recently, he reiterated his position as the customary overlord and sovereign traditional ruler of the 36 state towns of Anlo as He advised other traditional rulers to adhere to the time tested chieftaincy system for a peaceful Anlo towards development.
“Obviously, I as the Awaomefia of Anlo Dukor the overlord of the 36 towns of Anlo Dukor and their traditional fetish priest, that no chief in Anlo Dukor is equal or higher than the Awoamefia,”
“That the elevation of Chiefs to Paramountcy status in Anlo Dukor is my prerogative, that this elevation intend to decentralize traditional administration and development to as many areas as possible within Anlo Dukor, that no Chief in Anlo Dukor is equal or higher than the Awaomefia,”
Togbi Sri III issued this communique during a meeting held with him and Adzorvia Clan Chiefs and some elders of the state to deliberate on some important matters he claimed to be “self-delusion, nagging problems and misconceptions” in the Anlo chieftaincy realm in recent times” at his Palace in Anloga.
Togbi went on to clarify the authority of the Awadada stool and that of Awoamezitor.
“That the political and administrative structure of Anlo Dukor Council from its inception has the Awadada of Anlo Dukor as both the dejure and defacto second in command to the Awoamefia since the arrival of our forebearers, the position and responsibility of Awadada in the hierarchy of Chiefs in Anlo Dukor makes it possible for the Awadada to have an Agbotadua who is also a chief,”
“That the title Zikpuitor (Stool father) has been in the use since time immemorial and at any time an Adzorvia chief occupies the Awoamezi,”
This clarification from Awoamefia was based on some rumors that there is no role as Awoamezitor in the Anlo traditional hierarchy and that it is a novel position, but Awoamefia’s clarification coupled with Honourable Dan Abodakpi’s (Awoamezitor) clarification with Veritas News saying he is the 5th Awoamzitor of Anlo would settles the misconceptions as indicated by Togbi Sri.
In an exclusive interaction with Togbi after the meeting, he indicated that the chieftaincy system is dynamic and called on all chiefs within the State to adhere to its usages.
“This is a reminder to all Chiefs of Anlo Dukor that the Chieftaincy Institution is very dynamic and that those who were beneficiaries of the paramountcy creation should not be the persons opposing the action they benefited from,” Awoammefia stated.
He said the Chieftaincy system particularly that of Anlo owes its people a great debt of championing development saying that development can only be realized if they are all united.
