Ashanti Regional Police Intercept Ford Bus Loaded with Over GH¢1 Million in Currency

Officers from the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Tuesday, June 3, impounded a Ford bus loaded with a substantial amount of cash during a routine checkpoint operation.

The interception occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the Juapong snap checkpoint. According to police sources, the commercial vehicle was carrying 68 fertilizer bags filled with one-cedi notes and coins, amounting to a total of GH¢1,021,700.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Edward Ansah, was arrested on the spot. During preliminary interrogation, he told officers he had been contracted by an unidentified individual in Kumasi to transport the money from Ho in the Volta Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Mr. Ansah is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Authorities say efforts are underway to trace the source and intended use of the funds.

The Police have assured the public that updates will be provided as investigations progress.
