President Mahama unveils activities to mourn helicopter crash victims

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a series of national events to honour the memory of the eight individuals who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a televised national address on the evening of Thursday, August 7, 2025, the President outlined the solemn measures, as part of plans to pay deserving tribute to the lost public servants and Civil servants
According to Mr Mahama, an Evening of Reflection and Memorial will take place on Saturday, August 9, in honour of the victims at the forecourt of the State House at 5:00PM
Additionally, books of condolence will be opened simultaneously at key locations including the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Headquarters; and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Head Office from Sunday, August 10th to Thursday, August 14th, 2025.
The mourning activities will culminate in a grand Interdenominational State Funeral on Friday, August 15, 2025, to be held at the Black Star Square in Accra.
Earlier, the President declared a three-day national mourning period from Thursday, August 7, to Saturday, August 9. The mourning period includes a wreath-laying ceremony held at the Jubilee House to pay tribute to the departed.
He also used the opportunity to call on all Ghanaians to mourn the departed souls in unity and grief as he eulogizes them
“This is a moment of shared heartbreak, a time to reflect on the preciousness of life, the sacrifices of public service…of those who dedicate themselves to the well-being of our fellow citizens,”
“My brothers and sisters, my fellow countrymen and women, may God bless their souls and may God bless our homeland Ghana,” The President concluded

A military helicopter carrying eight people, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, crashed in a forest near Adansi in the Ashanti Region, where they all lost their lives
