NPP Confident of Victory in 12 Disputed Seats, Urges EC to Resume Collation

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed confidence that it secured all 12 parliamentary seats currently under dispute following the 2024 general elections.

The constituencies in question include Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Dome Kwabenya, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano South West, Akwatia, Suhum, Fanteakwa North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Techiman South.

At a press briefing held in Accra on Monday, December 16, 2024, former NPP National Chairman Peter Mac Manu urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to promptly resume the collation and declaration of results in these constituencies. He emphasized that the timely resolution of these disputes is vital for upholding democratic principles and maintaining national stability.

“The Electoral Commission must act swiftly to resume the collation process, with appropriate security arrangements in place to ensure a peaceful and transparent conclusion. We also call on the leadership of the NDC to restrain their supporters and allow the process to proceed smoothly,” Mac Manu stated.

The NPP underscored that its claims of victory in the disputed constituencies are backed by data from polling stations, including pink sheets that document the results.

“Our parliamentary candidates in these areas emerged victorious based on verifiable evidence. The data speaks for itself, and we remain confident in our position,” Mac Manu added.

The party appealed to all stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, and the Electoral Commission, to act in the nation’s best interest by respecting the will of voters.

“In the name of democracy and the peace of our beloved country, we urge all relevant parties to take immediate steps to conclude the collation process and reflect the choice of the electorate,” the NPP stated.

Mac Manu criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly interfering with the collation process in certain constituencies. He accused some NDC supporters of creating disturbances that contributed to the delays in finalizing the election results.

“We call on the NDC leadership to show responsible leadership and instruct their supporters to refrain from actions that could undermine our democratic processes. This is a critical moment for Ghana, and everyone must act in the nation’s best interest,” he stressed.

The NPP reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the will of the electorate is respected and called on the EC to bring finality to the collation process. With national stability at stake, the party urged all actors to prioritize peace and democracy in their actions.
