No Child Should Be Left Behind: A Call to Action for Akatsi South

An Open Letter by Sitsofe “Kawawa” Vuvor to Rt. Hon Bernard Ahiafor (Esq.) MP for Akatsi South

Honourable Bernard Ahiafor, On behalf of the youth, parents, and concerned citizens of Akatsi South, I write this open letter with a heavy heart but also with great hope.

Our young brothers and sisters who have just completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are eager to take the next step into Senior High School (SHS). Sadly, for many of them, despite the Free Senior High School policy, this dream is being threatened by challenges beyond their control.

In our communities, we see brilliant children with great potential sitting at home after their BECE because their parents cannot afford school uniforms, textbooks, boarding items (such as chop boxes and mattresses), or even school transportation. Some parents face the heartbreaking choice between feeding their families and preparing their wards for SHS.

Honourable, these young ones are the future of Akatsi South. If we allow poverty to stop them today, we risk losing a generation of leaders, teachers, doctors, farmers, engineers, and innovators who could transform our constituency for the better.

We have seen Members of Parliament in other constituencies rise to the occasion by providing scholarships, books, chop boxes, and essential support for BECE graduates. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Akatsi South, where little to no effort has been made over the years to support our young brothers and sisters.

How many dreams must die before action is taken? How many brilliant students must sit at home because their parents cannot afford the basics for SHS? Our youth are suffering, and leadership is silent.

An MP’s duty is not only to make laws but also to stand with the people in times of need. Honourable, we are watching, and history will judge. If others can rise for their people, why not Akatsi South?

This is why I am calling on you—in the spirit of true leadership and representation to stand with our BECE graduates. We are not asking for luxuries, but for the kind of support that keeps dreams alive.

I humbly appeal for the following:

  • Scholarships or financial aid for brilliant but needy students.
  • Provision of essential school items such as mattresses, chop boxes, books, and stationery.
  • Guidance and mentorship programmes to encourage and inspire students.
  • Partnerships with NGOs, old students, and community leaders to expand opportunities.

Honourable, your timely intervention will not only bring relief and hope to families but will also etch your name in the hearts of hundreds of children who will one day say, “I became who I am because my MP believed in me.”

We, the people of Akatsi South, are ready to support every effort you make toward this noble cause. Let us work together to ensure no child in our constituency is left behind simply because of financial difficulties.

The time to act is now. Our children are waiting and so is the future of Akatsi South.

Yours Respectfully,
Sitsofe “Kawawa” Vuvor, a native of Akatsi South
