Miss Pearl Edem Apreku and family donates to KETASCO

Miss Pearl Edem Apreku, the outgone senior prefect of Keta Senior High Technical School with support from her parents; Pastor Mawuli Apreku, Mrs Josephine Apreku, and Dr Celestine Allottey, President of Women in Mining in Africa has donated some items to the management of Keta Senior High Technical School to support academic works.

The donation held during the handing over ceremony a fortnight ago to officially transition power to the newly elected prefects was a support to the school in respect for Miss Edem Pearl Apreku’s achievement and performance as the first female prefect of the school.

Pastor Mawuli Apreku, father of Miss Pearl Edem speaking to Veritas News Ghana said their donation is to help their daughter’s achievements remain historic in the school’s history books.

“This support is not just a donation but a way to support our daughter to be able to fulfil the promises she made before she got elected, KETASCO has become a household name in terms of the National Science and Maths Quiz hence our decision to help promote it in that regard,”

The items which cost almost Ghc15000 include 12 large-sized PVC waste bins to enhance sanitation and waste management in the school, a set of quiz buzzers (bells) made up of 5 bells and an LED screen for the National Science and Maths Quiz department to enhance their preparations for the national competition

Pearl Edem Apreku was elected by her colleagues in May 2023 as the first-ever female school prefect in more than 70 years since the school was established, a record that got her a lot of attention from the general public, and old students.

As part of her achievements, she also led the 2023/2024 Student Representative Council, to donate items including footballs for the Physical Education department, sets of cordless microphones, a gadget rack for the entertainment departments, graph boards and a set of board mathematical set instruments among other materials to support both academic and co-curricular activities in the school. She also boosted their efforts by introducing some new clubs into the school and revamping of the school’s social media pages among other achievements.

Mr Isaac Boateng Boatman, KETASCO NSMQ coordinator, receiving the items said “The quiz buzzer donation is a major addition to the NSMQ department which will enable us to train adequately towards national competitions and the waste bins will also help promote proper sanitation on campus towards a healthy academic environment”. He promised to put the items to their proper use.

Miss Pearl Edem Apreku, in her speech, showed gratitude to the school management, staff, entire student body and her family for their support in making her administration a fulfilling one as she hinted at her future intentions.

“I am fulfilled today knowing how I have led and performed, thanks to the school authorities and my family, But I am not done, it is my dream to contest for SRC president at the University and even national president one day,” Pearl said 

Apart from KETASCO, Pearl was the first female prefect in her basic school days at St. Charlse Luwanga Catholic School in Accra in 2021 before she enrolled at Keta SHTS in September 2022 to pursue General Science.
