Accra, December 2025

The Experience Volta Festival, held over the weekend at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, drew thousands of visitors eager to explore and celebrate the cultural wealth of the Volta Region.

The festival, the first of its kind, provided a platform for the region to showcase its unique traditions, music, dance, art, and cuisine, while also highlighting the region’s untapped tourism and economic potential.

The festival featured a vibrant lineup of cultural groups, including the Dzogadze Atsiagbekor Culture Troupe, Sparrow Culture Troupe, Efadzinam Borborbor Group, Hikpo Borborbor Group, Gefia Borborbor Group, Abor Peace and Love Borborbor Group, Talent Culture Troupe from, and the Akatsi Central Band. Traditional performances also captured the audience’s imagination. The Ho Asafo Group, Afetorku Gbodzi deity leaders and members from Dagbamate, presented traditional dances accompanied by vivid narrations that explained the workings of the Afetorku Gbodzi deity, as well as …..

Additionally, Torgbui Anokye and Fremani “Korku” cult members amazed spectators with demonstrations of their mystical prowess, creating a unique blend of cultural education and entertainment.

The festival attracted prominent patrons and dignitaries, including Nene Neur Keteku IV, Konor (Paramount) of the Agotime Traditional Area, who attended with some of his paramount chiefs and queen mothers, and Mr Gabriel Tanko Kwamiga Atokple, Council of State Member for the Volta Region, and Mr Mawutor Agbavitor. Alongside the durbar, the “Experience Volta” basketball tournament showcased top teams from the region, including AK-Raffles (Akatsi), Akpini Snippers (Kpando), Sandcity Young Baller (Keta), Aftown Flames (Aflao), Asogli Hoopers (Ho), and the Volta Diaspora team featuring Volta natives living in Accra. After a competitive day, Akpini Snippers of Kpando emerged as champions, with the Volta Diaspora team finishing second, while Sandcity Young Ballers and Asogli Hoopers reached the semi-finals.

The tournament highlighted the region’s rich sporting talent. Mr Alex Kukula, Ghana Basketball Federation President, and Mr Kennedy Ohene, who officiated the event, commended the teams and pledged support for future competitions.

The celebration culminated in the “Experience Volta in Accra” concert, featuring top musical talents from the region. Performers such as rappers Edem and Keeny Ice, Afro-spiritualist Enam, Kpese Boi, Gabanki, Morgan Nero, Agbeshie, Dela Botri and the Ancestors Band from Lome-Togo captivated the audience with electrifying performances that bridged tradition and contemporary music.

Speaking to Veritas News GH, Mr Seyram Agbolosu, Chief Executive of Ewevi Multimedia, organisers of the festival, expressed his satisfaction with the maiden edition’s success.

“This idea was born from the need to showcase how our region is so richly endowed yet lacks the necessary exposure. Taking the Volta and Eweland to the people in their own environment was not easy; it came with a lot of criticism, but we worked hard to convince many. Today, we have succeeded.”

Both the durbar and the concert drew thousands of Voltarians and non-Ewes living in Accra, who expressed satisfaction with the organisation and pledged to support future editions.
“We are delighted to participate in this programme. It truly gave us a sense of home. Due to our busy schedules, we rarely get to celebrate our festivals back home, and this event offered a wonderful experience of what home is,” some patrons shared.

The Experience Volta Festival not only provided a platform for cultural celebration but also highlighted the region’s immense tourism, creative, and economic potential. Organisers believe that with sustained support, the festival can become an annual event that promotes regional identity, generates employment, attracts investments, and positions the Volta Region as a key cultural and tourism destination in Ghana.
