Keta-Anloga Youth Parliament Prepares for New Session with Membership Drive and Training Sessions
The Business Committee of the Keta and Anloga Youth Parliament has met to deliberate on activities aimed at reconvening a new parliament as the tenure of the current parliament comes to an end.
The meeting, held on Friday afternoon at the Secretariat of the National Youth Authority in Keta Municipal Assembly, was attended by the leadership of both caucuses, heads of various committees under the auspices of the Municipal Youth Director, Mr. Francis Susuawu.
During the meeting, the committee passed several resolutions, all focused on facilitating the reconstitution of the new parliament.
A key decision was to reinforce an ongoing membership drive, initially launched through a press release by the Publicity Committee Chairperson, Mr Gameli Dovia.
This initiative seeks to officially register all youth groups within the Keta and Anloga districts with the National Youth Autority (NYA) office, as well as individual youth interested in joining the new parliament.
The committee has set Friday, March 14, 2025, as the deadline for the ongoing membership drive, and to ensure its success, each member present was tasked with engaging youth groups and individuals within their respective communities to get them registered
Additionally, a resolution was passed to communicate the membership drive to the Presiding Members of the Keta and Anloga Municipal Assemblies, to encourage their Assembly Members to identify new youth groups and recommend them for registration and membership into the Youth Parliament.
In preparation for the new parliament, the committee resolved to organise a training workshop for all the new members that would be registered on Thursday, March 20th, 2025, at the Anloga Municipal Assembly while the first sitting of the new Youth Parliament will come off on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Keta Municipal Assembly Hall.
Mr Fred Nuviadenu, the Minority Chief Whip of the Keta/Anloga Youth Parliament, urged all committee members to diligently carry out their responsibilities to achieve the intended goals.
Hon. Dan Sosoo, Majority Leader of the outgoing parliament, appealed to the youth to embrace the initiative. Speaking to Veritas News Gh, he said,
“The Keta-Anloga Youth Parliament has made significant achievements in advocacy and creating opportunities for members. We encourage our peers to join us in harnessing greater opportunities for Keta and Anloga.”
The Youth Parliament concept is an initiative established by the National Youth Authority to provide a formalized platform for the youth at district, regional, and national levels. It serves as a forum for young people to express their concerns, deliberate on issues pertinent to youth development, and hold duty bearers accountable.
