Hogbeza 2025: Festival launch postponed in honour of national tragedy

The Central Planning Committee of the 2025 Hogbetsotso Festival, in consultation with the leadership of the Anlo Dukor Council, has announced the postponement of this year’s official launching of the festival.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025, the launch will now take place on Saturday, 30th August 2025, at the premises of Ohawu Agricultural College in the Ketu North District, commencing at 10:00 a.m.
According to Awadada Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Chairman of the Festival Planning Committee, the decision was taken as a mark of respect for the eight distinguished Ghanaians who lost their lives in the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti Region.
“The rescheduling of our planned programmes is to mourn with and honour the memory of our dear compatriots who have paid the ultimate price in the service of our Motherland, Ghana,” Togbi Awusu stated.
He further explained that the postponement would allow members of the Traditional Council and the wider Anlo community to fully participate in the interdenominational state funeral, which is scheduled for Friday, 15th August 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
The launching ceremony will be chaired by Togbi Adrakpanya VI, Paramount Chief of Afife Traditional Area alongside Togbi Kordor III of Ohawu with other dignitaries present.
Earlier, the Traditional Council had extended its condolences to the President, the Government, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a statement, the Council prayed for the souls of the departed to find rest among the honoured ancestors and called on all to uphold their legacies.
Mr. Kenneth Kpedor, President of Anlo Youth Council, also leading the planning, has assured the public that all arrangements for the rescheduled launch remain in place and that the event will proceed with its full cultural and ceremonial significance on the new date. (Saturday 30th August at Ohawu)
As part of the festival plans, this year’s Mini Hogbe Durbar will be held at Adidome in the Central Tongu District alongside many other planned activities
