Government Cuts Sod for New Infrastructure at Tsiame SHTS and Atiavi SHS

A major boost to educational infrastructure is underway in the Keta Municipality following the commencement of multiple high-impact projects aimed at transforming learning environments at two key senior high schools in the area.

On Monday, 16 February 2026, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, led a high-powered delegation to the Keta Municipality to perform sod-cutting ceremonies for extensive infrastructure developments at Tsiame Senior High Technical School and Atiavi Senior High School, all within the Wego areas of the Keta Municipality

The delegation included the Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the Municipal Chief Executive, Wisdom Bondzie Seade, and former MP, Zikpitor Dan Kwasi Abodakpi, alongside officials from the Municipal Education Directorate, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and residents.

Major Infrastructure Package at Tsiame SHTS

At Tsiame Senior High Technical School, the sod-cutting marked the start of a comprehensive infrastructure package designed to address congestion, staff accommodation challenges, and campus security concerns.

The projects include a two-storey dormitory block with a courtyard, a three-storey 18-unit classroom block, a modern dining hall with kitchen facilities, four semi-detached two-bedroom staff bungalows, a three-bedroom headmaster’s bungalow, and a 1.4-kilometre perimeter fence wall with secure gates.

Addressing the gathering, Regional Minister James Gunu emphasised that sustained investment in school infrastructure is central to improving academic outcomes and the delivery of technical education. He noted that well-planned facilities not only reduce overcrowding but also create a safer and more conducive learning environment for both students and teachers.

Student Welfare Focus at Atiavi SHS

The delegation later proceeded to Atiavi Senior High School, where a sod was cut for the construction of a modern dining hall with a fully equipped kitchen. The project is expected to significantly enhance feeding arrangements, ease pressure on existing facilities, and improve overall student welfare.

Member of Parliament Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey over here repledged his readiness to champion development initiatives across the municipality, particularly those that strengthen educational infrastructure. He described the projects as critical investments that would shape the future of education in Keta.

Municipal Chief Executive Wisdom Bondzie Seade expressed appreciation to the John Maham-led government and stakeholders for prioritising the municipality, stressing that the infrastructure boost would have long-term benefits for students, teaching staff, and the wider community. Former MP Dan Kwasi Abodakpi also lauded the initiative, calling it a timely and strategic step toward addressing persistent infrastructure gaps in local schools.

Community Optimism and Long-Term Impact

The ceremonies were met with enthusiasm and optimism from chiefs, school authorities, students, and community members, many of whom described the projects as overdue solutions to longstanding challenges. With construction set to begin, the developments are expected to significantly improve access, safety, staff retention, and learning conditions—positioning Keta Municipality as a growing hub for quality secondary and technical education in the Volta Region.

The Projects will be funded by the Ghana Educational Trust Fund (GETFund)
