GOLDBOD to prosecute three foreigners and deport three others over gold smuggling

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has confirmed that three of the six foreign nationals arrested for illegal gold trading will be deported, while the remaining three will be prosecuted under Ghana’s recently enacted gold trading legislation.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, May 14, Prince Minkah, the spokesperson for GoldBod, explained that the suspects were apprehended in two separate operations.
According to Minkah, the first group of suspects was arrested in the Ashanti Region prior to the implementation of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140) and before the April 30 deadline for foreign nationals to exit Ghana’s local gold trade.
“They will be repatriated to their home country to reunite with their families,” Minkah stated. “However, any foreigner caught engaging in illegal gold trading will face the full force of the law.”
The second group, arrested after the new law came into effect, will be prosecuted in accordance with the updated legal framework, highlighting the government’s commitment to enforcing stricter regulations within the gold trade sector.
