Mr. Godwin Atsu Adukpo, a celebrated alumnus of Anlo Senior High School and a four-time Ghana Milo Marathon champion, has made a generous donation of sports equipment and cash to support sports development in his alma mater.
The contribution, valued at over GH¢4,000, included 60 pairs of running spikes, sneakers, and other essential athletic equipment, alongside a cash donation of GH¢1,000.
The timing of the donation is significant as the school intensifies preparations for the upcoming Inter-Schools Sports Festival scheduled for the following week.
Mr. Adukpo, who completed ANSECO in 2007, presented the items during a training session attended by the school’s student-athletes over the week.
The moment also provided an opportunity for him to interact with the athletes, motivating them to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to excellence as they train to uphold the proud sporting tradition of the school.
“Sports is an important curriculum activity in our schools. Those of you here are very privileged because the rewards in sports can be very high if you remain focused, disciplined, listen to your coaches, and maintain good academic standards,” Mr. Adukpo told the students.
Mr. Felix Ladeka, Head of the Physical Education Department, expressed profound appreciation on behalf of the school. He commended Mr. Adukpo for his consistent support and assured that the gesture would inspire improved performance in the upcoming sports festival.
“We sincerely appreciate our brother for always remembering his roots and for consistently supporting the school, especially the Sports Department. We will work hard to make him and the entire alumni body proud this year ” Mr. Ladeka stated.
In an exclusive interview with Mr. Adukpo, He revealed plans to introduce other new reward-based initiatives to further motivate and inspire the school’s student-athletes.
Currently, Mr. Adukpo serves as an officer with the Ghana Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) and is actively involved in physical training and athletics coaching. His illustrious career includes four victories in the Ghana Milo Marathon (2005, 2008, 2009, and 2010), making him one of the event’s most outstanding performers.
Beyond road racing, he holds numerous long-distance track records at the inter-house, inter-school, inter-zonal, and national levels, many of which remain unbroken to date.
This latest gesture by Godwin Adukpo did not only concretise his sporting legacy but also proves his commitment to nurturing the next generation of athletes from Anlo Senior High School and the Volta Region at large.
