Experience Volta Festival Appoints Four Diaspora Advisors to Boost Global Engagement

The organisers of the Experience Volta in Accra Festival have announced the appointment of four distinguished personalities—Steve Dei, Selasi Henyo, Empress Mawusi Kudjawu, and Mac-Jordan Elikem Degadjor—as Diaspora Expectations & Relations Advisors, a strategic role designed to deepen engagement with Ewe and Volta communities worldwide.

Their appointment marks a major step toward ensuring the festival meaningfully reflects the aspirations, cultural pride, and expectations of the Volta Region’s expansive diaspora.

A Strategic Role Connecting Home and Abroad

As Diaspora Relations Advisors, the appointees will: Offer guidance on diaspora interests in culture, tourism, and identity, Bridge communication between the planning committee and global Ewe/Volta networks, Leverage their platforms and influence to amplify the festival’s visibility, Ensure festival programming resonates with Ewes abroad, reinforcing belonging and cultural pride.

Their contribution will help shape a festival that not only celebrates heritage but reconnects the diaspora with their roots.

PROFILE OF DIASPORA ADVISORS

Empress Mawusi Kudjawu — Chicago, USA

A proud Anlo descendant from Dzelukope and Akatsi, Empress Mawusi serves as the Public Relations Officer of the Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA). She holds a master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner and co-hosts both CEANA Central TV and the popular Hododuio Show.

Married to 90s dancehall artiste General Marcus and a mother of three boys, she is passionate about communication, culture, and strengthening Ewe identity. Her vision focuses on uplifting Ewe heritage through media and global visibility.

Henyo Selasi — Toulouse, France

Selasi is a Telecom Engineer by profession and currently works as a Solution Manager in Satellite Communication. Originally from Aflao, she is also a culture influencer celebrated for her digital promotion of Eʋe heritage, food, fashion, and history.

Her storytelling inspires both local and diaspora communities to stay rooted in Eʋe identity while embracing modern expression. She remains a strong advocate for cultural preservation through education, technology, and community engagement.

Mr. Steve Dei (Efo Steve) — New Jersey, USA

A businessman, community organizer, and longtime cultural advocate, Efo Steve is a former CEANA PRO, former President of the Ewe Association of Chicago, and served as Chair of CEANA’s fundraising committee for over a decade.

He has hosted CEANA conventions across the U.S. and is widely recognized as an MC for major Ewe events internationally. He continues to serve with Norvisi Association of New Jersey and the Ewe Association of Chicago, championing Ewe unity and development.

Mac-Jordan Elikem Degadjor — Alberta, Canada

Mac-Jordan is a respected technology blogger and digital researcher with a deep commitment to using technology to preserve identity and expand opportunity. A proud Aŋlɔ man from Keta and alumnus of Keta Secondary School, he leads EweSpace, a community dedicated to keeping the Eʋe language, history, and traditions alive while strengthening ties between Ewes in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and the diaspora.

His research explores digital culture, civic participation, and African storytelling. A recipient of the 2013 Internet Fellowship from the U.S. Embassy Ghana, the U.S. State Department, and the Internet Society, he is known for championing cross-border community-building initiatives.

His work blends cultural pride, innovation, and global connectivity in ways that resonate with Eʋes everywhere.

A Unified Vision for the Global Ewe Community

According to the festival organisers, these appointments both honour the advisors’ years of service to the Ewe and Volta diaspora and establish a strategic partnership to ensure diasporans feel represented and involved.
