Energy Minister directs MMDAs to budget for electricity bills

Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Jinapor, has announced that all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) must now include electricity bills in their budgets.
Speaking at a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Energy on May 15, 2025, he said the need for MDAS to take full responsibility for their power consumption. While essential sectors like health, education, and security are included, only specific areas such as labs and lecture halls will be exempted.
Parliament is currently reviewing the classifications for final approval.
Meanwhile, the Ministry disclosed an urgent need for GHS 1.1 billion to purchase fuel for power generation, warning that the current fuel stock will last just 2.6 days.
