EC commences mop-up voter registration today, hopes to register more than 50,000 new voters

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has commenced a mop-up exercise today to register some new voter applicants who turned 18 years after the limited registration and those who could not register during the exercise unto the voter register

The exercise which will last for three days starts from Thursday August 1st 2024 to Saturday August 3rd 2024

According to the Commission’s press release dated July 29th 2024, the exercise will take place across all the 268 District offices of the Commission with 26 public universities and 41 Prison centers across Ghana starting from 7:00am to 6:00pm each day.

As part of registration requirements, applicants are to present either their Ghana Card or Passport as forms of identification and in the absence of any of the above, two registered voters can guarantee for the applicants through the guarantor system.

“Guarantor can only guarantee for 10 applicants, those who guarantee for 10 voters during the limited voter registration exercise cannot guarantee for other applicants during the mop-up exercise,” The commission warned

They warned against double registration saying,

“The mop-up exercise will be conducted online and registered voters are warned not to attempt to register again,”

The Commission has assured the general public of a stable network service during the exercise

The exercise according to the EC has projected to register between 50,000 to 70,000 voters unto the voter register towards the upcoming December 7 general elections
