Council of State Election: EC to re-run in Ashanti and North East

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced a re-run of elections for the Council of State elections in two Regions
The re-run will be held for Ashanti Region and North East Region on Monday 17 February, 2025
In the Ashanti Region, there was a disruption of electoral processes resulting in the election not concluding and for North East Region, there was a tie in the out come of the results
In a press release issued by the Commission on Wednesday February 13, 2025, the election in the North East Region ended in a tie, with the top two candidates each receiving six votes. As a result, a re-run is required to determine the winner.
The Commission said they have taken steps to have smooth and successful re-run of events particularly in the Ashanti Region
“The Commission has written to the Ghana Police Service and copied the National Election Security Taskforce to heighten security at the venues of the elections to prevent any disruptions,” stated Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations for the EC.
