Communication Ministry cracks down on 6 unauthorized broadcasting entities

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has instructed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to take immediate enforcement action against six broadcasting entities for operating without valid frequency authorisations.
This directive is in line with Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).
These media houses are;
Fire Group of Companies, Sunyani – 90.1MHz
I-Zar Consult Limited, Tamale – 89.7MHz
Abochannel Media Group, Adidome – 105.7MHz
Okyeame Radio Limited, Bibiani – 99.7MHz
Mumen Bono Foundation, Techiman – 99.7MHz
Osikani Community FM, Nkrankwanta – 99.7MHz
In a media advisory issued by Mr Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communication, “These entities failed to renew their frequency authorisations, fulfil statutory payment obligations, or submit necessary documentation within the required timeframe, Consequently, their authorisations have lapsed by law, rendering their continued operations illegal,”
As stipulated in Act 775, it is illegal to operate broadcasting services without a valid frequency authorisation. The NCA is mandated to halt all unauthorized transmissions and ensure compliance with the law.
The Ministry further noted that a review of the frequency authorisation audit is ongoing, and additional directives will be issued in due course. All frequency authorisation holders are urged to adhere strictly to the terms of their authorisations to avoid similar enforcement actions.
This development underscores the Ministry’s commitment to regulatory compliance and the enforcement of broadcasting standards across the country.
