CLOGSAG strike: Mahama to reassign Samuel Botchway

The threat of a nationwide strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has been averted following the government’s decision to reassign Samuel Adom Botchway from his position as Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry.

The decision was made to resolve the concerns raised by CLOGSAG regarding the appointment of politically exposed persons to key positions within the Civil Service and Local Government.

In a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the spokesperson of President John Dramani Mahama, it was announced, “In the truest spirit of cooperation and understanding, we are happy to announce that the matter has been resolved and there will be no nationwide strike by CLOGSAG.

“Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway will thus be reassigned from the Births and Deaths Registry.”

The government acknowledged that the precedent set by the previous administration in appointing a non-civil servant to the position remains a matter pending in the courts.

“We have learnt that the precedent that was set by the outgone government of appointing a non-civil servant to that position remains a pending matter in the courts,” the statement read.

The Government of President Mahama expressed its commitment to being responsive to the concerns of public servants and ensuring a collaborative approach to addressing issues within the Civil Service and Local Government.

“The Government of President Mahama remains committed to being a listening one as we together reset our nation,” Ofosu stated.
