Catholic Bishops’ Conference Commends EC for Credible 2024 Elections

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has extended its congratulations to Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commissioner of Ghana, and the entire Electoral Commission (EC) for the successful organization of the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday December 11, 2024, and signed by the GCBC President, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, the Bishops commended the Commission for its professionalism, transparency, and efficiency during the electoral process.

They acknowledged the challenges that often accompany democratic elections but praised the EC’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s electoral system, which has strengthened public confidence.

The GCBC specifically lauded Mrs. Mensa for her exemplary leadership and steadfast commitment to the EC’s mandate. The statement highlighted her role in ensuring a credible and peaceful electoral process, furthering Ghana’s reputation as a model of democracy in the region.

The Bishops also recognized the effective collaboration of the EC with key stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, civil society organizations, the media and voters, ensuring a peaceful and transparent election that reflected the will of the people.

The statement concluded with a prayer for continued peace and stability in Ghana. It encouraged all stakeholders to foster unity, respect, and national development while urging leaders to serve the people with wisdom, integrity, and dedication.

The GCBC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at safeguarding democracy and promoting national cohesion.
