Carlos Queiroz named new Black Stars coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formally appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior national team (Ghana Black Stars)
The appointment confirms a major decision as the team prepares for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz arrives with a wealth of experience at the highest levels of international football, bringing a proven track record of leadership and tactical expertise. The seasoned Portuguese coach has managed several national teams and elite clubs, including high-profile roles at Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as national assignments with Portugal, Iran, Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar.
The 73-year-old takes over at a crucial time, with the World Cup just weeks away. He is expected to begin work immediately as he begins to assess the squad, finalise his technical team and prepare the Black Stars for the global showpiece.

His extensive FIFA World Cup experience is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s campaign. He successfully led South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, guided Portugal to the knockout stage at the 2010 World Cup, and managed Iran during the 2014 and 2018 editions, demonstrating consistent competence on the global stage.
