BECE candidates to select SHS after results are out – Education Minister

The government has introduced a significant policy shift for the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). Under the new guidelines, BECE candidates will now select their preferred Senior High Schools only after their examination results have been released rather than before the examinations.

According to the Education Minister, this move aims to enhance the CSSPS by helping students make better-informed decisions once they know their performance. He noted that selecting schools after results are out will reduce mismatched placements.

Speaking to the press on April 1, 2026, the Minister stated that students will have a one-week period to pick their schools once their results are out, explaining that the old system, where students had to choose schools before knowing their grades, often led to poor placement results.

“In the past, students selected schools without knowing their aggregate, and that affected the placement system. This time, we will provide a mandatory period of one week after results are declared for students to confirm their choices based on their performance,” he said.

Government aims to ensure that students’ choices are based on their actual academic performance by switching to this new approach. The Minister believes this new strategy is expected to make the Senior High School admission process much more efficient. He is confident that the change will ensure greater fairness and significantly cut down on the common placement challenges students and parents have faced in the past.
