Authorities of Tegbi Ashiata School call for infrastructural support to transform school into model institution

Authorities of the Tegbi Ashiata Basic School have appealed to stakeholders, corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations and benevolent individuals to support the school with critical infrastructure.
The support they describe will enhance teaching and learning and position the institution as a model basic school within the Tegbi community and the Anloga District at a whole.
The appeal was made by key stakeholders of the school, including the Headteacher, Mr Gershon Ameku, and the Assembly Member for the area, Mr Jumpah Ephraim, and other staff members during a brief ceremony held a few weeks ago to commission a renovated and fully furnished three-unit classroom block.
According to them, several priority projects remain outstanding and require urgent attention. These include the construction of a perimeter fence wall to improve security on the school compound and to avoid encroachments by neighbouring settlers
Gravelling and levelling of the school’s playing field to promote co-curricular activities such as sports and physical education.
They also called for the furnishing of the school canteen with adequate tables and benches to improve comfort for both teachers and pupils during break periods.

In addition, they appealed for the provision of waste bins and the establishment of a designated state-of-the-art refuse collection area to promote proper sanitation and environmental hygiene on the school premises.
Another critical need highlighted was the construction of a kitchen facility for the school, which is a beneficiary of the Government’s School Feeding Programme. The absence of a dedicated kitchen, they noted, continues to pose operational challenges to the smooth implementation of the programme.

Mr Raphael Ameku, speaking to Veritas News later, stressed that the successful execution of these projects would significantly improve the school’s learning environment and contribute to better academic outcomes for pupils, while also enhancing working conditions for teachers as well.
Tegbi Ashiata Basic School currently has a pupil population of about 500, and a staff strength of 17. It is one of the two basic schools serving the Tegbi Ashiata Electoral Area, alongside Kpota EP Basic School.
Although the school has benefited from some support in recent years from non-governmental organisations, such as Woezor Helena Library–Germany and African Adventures, the authorities noted that the proposed projects remain critical to the holistic transformation and long-term development of the school.
