Blogger Samuel Amadotor granted GH¢50k bail in case against former NCA board chair

An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to blogger Samuel Amadotor of Dklassgh.net, who was arrested for allegedly publishing false information about the former Board Chairman of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio II.
Presiding judge, Her Ladyship Evelyn Asamoah, admitted Amadotor to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties.
The blogger faces two counts: publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic, contrary to Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), and publication of false news under Section 123 of the Electronic Transactions Act (Act 772).
According to police reports, Amadotor was arrested at his residence after allegedly posting stories and videos online that purportedly damaged the reputation of the former NCA Board Chair, Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio II.
The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges during the hearing. Following submissions from the prosecution and the defence team, led by lawyer Jerry Avenorgbo, the court granted bail.
Amadotor’s lawyer welcomed the court’s decision, and the trial is expected to continue following the blogger’s release on bail.
