Agric Minister Eric Opoku Headlines Anlo Hogbeza 2025 Launch at Ohawu

Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Eric Opoku, has been officially invited to serve as Special Guest of Honour at the grand launch of the 2025 Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival, scheduled for Saturday, August 30, at Ohawu in the Afife Traditional Area.

The confirmation came from Mr. Kenneth Kpedor, President of the Anlo Youth Council and Chair of the planning committee, who noted that Mr. Opoku’s selection reflects the community’s ambition to spotlight Ohawu as a national agricultural hub. The town is home to the Ohawu Agricultural College, which locals are strongly advocating to be upgraded into a fully-fledged Agricultural University.

According to Mr. Kpedor, the Agric Minister’s presence not only affirms Ohawu’s pivotal role in Ghana’s food security but also strengthens calls for deeper investment in agricultural research, training, and modern production systems.

Other dignitaries expected include Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, and Ketu North MP Edem Eric Agbana. The event, jointly hosted by Togbi Adrakpanya VI, Paramount Chief of Afife, and Togbi Kordor III, Dufia of Ohawu, will also gather chiefs, queens, opinion leaders, youth, and residents from across the Anlo State.

Renowned for vast rice plantations, cassava farms, and diverse food crop production, Ohawu and its surrounding Afife enclave stand as one of the Volta Region’s leading farming zones. Organisers believe that tying the Hogbeza launch to agriculture sends a strong message about the festival’s role in advancing both culture and development.

The 2025 Anlo Hogbeza launch is therefore set to transcend cultural pageantry emerging as a platform for dialogue and renewed commitment to agricultural transformation and educational innovation. This ceremony officially kicks off activities leading to the grand celebration of the Hogbetsotso Festival on November 1 at Anloga.
