Hogbeza 2025: Anlo Council warns of strict sanctions during Sept 7–27 Noisemaking Ban

The Anlo Dukor Council has warned residents to strictly obey the Three-week ban on drumming and noisemaking commencing from Sunday, September 7, to Saturday, September 27, 2025, as part of sacred rites leading to this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival.

In a statement signed by Awadada Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Chairman of the Festival Planning Committee on behalf of Awoamefia Togbi Sri III, the public was cautioned to strictly observe the directive, which applies across all thirty-six traditional towns under Anlo jurisdiction.

The ban covers activities such as drumming, outdoor musical events, funerals, religious crusades, and any form of excessive or amplified noise.

Organisers of events have been urged to plan and complete noise-related activities before the commencement date to avoid inconvenience or violations.

The Council warned that breaches will attract both traditional and legal consequences, stressing that a task force, working with local authorities and security agencies, will monitor compliance.

“This is a sacred period for purification, and its sanctity must be preserved for the unity and peace of our people,” the statement said.

The Annual Hogbetsotso Festival, which commemorates the migration of the Anlo people from Notsie in present-day Togo, will follow the ban with its series of cultural and historic activities.
