“Congress of Chiefs” Rescheduled as Anlo State Mourns Fallen Compatriots

The Anlo Dukor (State) Council has announced the postponement of its scheduled “Congress of Chiefs” in honour of compatriots who lost their lives in a recent national tragedy.

It was earlier planned to come off on Thursday, August 14, 2025, but has now been rescheduled to Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Anlo Senior High School Auditorium

In a statement issued by Awadada Togbi Agbesi Awusu II on behalf of Awaomefia Togbi Sri III, the Council stated why they have to reschedule the event and also expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the President of the Republic, and the Government of Ghana.

“The rescheduling of our programmes is to mourn with and honour the memory of our dear compatriots who have paid the ultimate price in the service of our motherland,” the statement read.

He also explained that the decision was also to allow members of the Traditional Council to participate in the inter-denominational state burial for the deceased, which falls on the original date of the Congress.

The Anlo Dukor described the loss as a painful blow to the nation and reaffirmed its solidarity with all affected families.

The Council expressed hope that the rescheduled Congress on August 21 will serve as a productive and unifying platform for all chiefs, elders, and stakeholders to advance the cause of the Anlo State.

“We look forward to welcoming all participants on the new date for a productive and unifying engagement,” the statement concluded.

The Traditional Council had earlier postponed all other major events scheduled within the period, including the 2025 Hogbetsotso Festival launch, which was moved from Saturday, 16th August, to Saturday, 30th August, in pursuit of the same objective.

The Congress of Chiefs is a triannual gathering that brings together all Paramount Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs, Sub-Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Agbotaduawo, Hanuawo, Dumegawo and other distinguished traditional leaders from all 36 State Towns of Anlo. The event, which also welcomes the general public, serves as a key platform for deliberations on critical matters concerning chieftaincy, education, and other issues of importance to the Anlo State.
