Asantehene commences mediation today to resolve Bawku conflict

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to commence mediation today, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, between the two factions involved in the protracted Bawku conflict.
The feuding parties arrived in Kumasi on Monday, April 28, 2025, in anticipation of the crucial discussions aimed at securing a lasting resolution to the long-standing dispute.
The Bawku conflict, which has persisted for several years, has become a matter of national concern. The intervention of the Asantehene is widely regarded as a significant step toward achieving enduring peace.
Speaking to Citi News, Sarfo Kantanka, a historian at the Manhyia Palace, revealed that stringent security measures have been instituted to ensure the smooth conduct of the mediation process.
“Matters involving conflict necessitate a heightened level of security. It goes without saying that there will be a strong security presence,” he stated.
He further explained that, unlike previous engagements, this mediation will adopt a dual approach, incorporating private (in-camera) and public sessions to facilitate effective dialogue.
