The Alarming Rise of Energy Drink and Hard Drug Abuse – Johnson Louis (JLO) writes

A growing concern is sweeping across our nation, threatening the health and well-being of our youth. The excessive consumption of energy drinks, often mixed with hard drugs, has reached alarming levels.

This dangerous trend is not only claiming lives but also jeopardizing the future of our younger generation.

Recently, a driver in Sogakofe lost his life due to kidney failure caused by excessive energy drink consumption. This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for awareness and action.

The situation is further complicated by the manipulation of the system, which allows the wealthy to profit from the sale of these harmful substances while the poor suffer the consequences.

The abuse of energy drinks is often accompanied by the use of hard drugs, cough mixtures, and even glue. This toxic combination is leaving many young people motionless and stagnant, their lives put on hold by the debilitating effects of these substances.

In stark contrast, neighboring Togo has implemented strict restrictions on the sale of energy drinks. While some may argue that this is a strategy to protect a someone’s business interests, it nonetheless serves as a measure to minimize the harm caused by these beverages.

It is imperative that our public health officers take a more proactive approach to addressing this crisis. Regular visits to lorry stations and communities, along with public education campaigns through radio and television, can help raise awareness and educate the public about the dangers of energy drink and hard drug abuse.

As a society, we must prioritize sustainable growth that values human life and health over profit. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to take action against this growing menace. The time to act is now.
