Government to establish School Sports Authority–Kofi Adams hints

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has announced a significant development in the sports sector during the launch of the maiden Amateur Boxing League on Friday, February 21, 2025.
The Minister revealed that the government, in collaboration with his Ministry, aims to establish a School Sports Authority. This new entity will oversee sports management from the basic levels of education, including junior high, secondary schools, colleges, and even universities.
“The objective is to create a structured and comprehensive system for school sports, ensuring that students at all levels have access to organised competitions and development opportunities,” Kofi Adams stated. He also emphasised the importance of promoting physical education and sports culture across the educational spectrum, aiming to foster holistic development through sports.
The establishment of the School Sports Authority will mark a milestone in Ghana’s sports history, as it is expected to enhance existing sports structures, complementing efforts to nurture talent and participation at all educational levels.
The event brought together stakeholders from various sectors of the sports industry. The presence of Kofi Adams and other officials highlighted the government’s commitment to investing in a future where sports are an integral part of education.
